Dr. George specializes in pediatric cardiology and complex cardiac surgery. He conducted hundreds of operations on the heart and chest and has a vast amount of experience in his particular areas of interest: correction of heart valves, surgery of the great vessels. Dr. Frenkel performed many unique operations, such as an open-heart surgery for a premature baby weighing 800 grams, a heart transplant for a one-year-old child, installation of a defibrillator for a 4-month-old baby. As well as the complex operations in the twins, suffered from the same complex multiple heart defect, both of whom weighed less than 3kg. Corrective surgery, which fully repaired the defects, included closure of the large hole between the chambers and creating an outlet for the right ventricle.
Dr. George Frenkel successfully treat aortic valve stenosis, arrhythmias, atrial septal defect, breach of atrioventricular canal, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, aortic coarctation, congenital heart disease, coronary artery in children with Kawasaki syndrome, Ebstein’s anomaly, tetralogy of Fallof, anomalous pulmonary venous return etc. In addition to medical practice, Dr. George Frenkel pays great attention to scientific work. He has written dozens of articles on various aspects of cardio-thoracic surgery. His professional experience is more than 30 years.
The Cardiac Surgery Division at Schneider Children’s, where Dr. George Frenkel works, treats thousands of sick children from all over the country each year. It has the capability of responding to highly complex conditions in small infants a day old. Early diagnosis accords the planning of the birth at a tertiary care center that is able to dictate policy and supply immediate treatment, thus obviating potential early damage which can result from a heart defect such as this. Annually, Schneider Children’s performs over 10,000 assessments through echocardiograms, more than 400 cardiac surgeries and over 500 cardiac catheterizations, 60% of which are therapeutic.
